Square footage is the obvious one. Beyond that, the biggest factors are access, grade, and what has to come out first.
A flat backyard with a gate wide enough for equipment is the easiest case. A sloped yard that needs a retaining wall to create flat space, or a tight side yard where everything moves by wheelbarrow, adds labor.
Removing an old concrete patio or a rotting timber wall is real work and it shows up in the quote. So do extras like a fire pit, seat wall, or lighting sleeves.
The paver itself matters less than people expect. Most of the cost is in the base and the labor, which is also where the quality lives. We would rather you spend on the base than on a premium paver over a thin one.
